1. Assumption of Risk – Virginia Agritourism Notice

Pursuant to Virginia Code § 3.2-6400 et seq. (Virginia Agritourism Activity Immunity Law):

“Under Virginia law, there is no liability for an injury to or death of a participant in an agritourism activity conducted at this agritourism location if such injury or death results from the inherent risks of the agritourism activity. Inherent risks of agritourism activities include, among others, risks of injury inherent to land, equipment, animals, or activities such as feeding, petting, or riding animals, as well as the potential that a participant may act in a negligent manner that may contribute to the injury or death of the participant or others. You are assuming the risk of participating in this agritourism activity.”

2. Safety Guidelines

  • Closed-toe shoes are required for all guests—children and adults.
  • No sandals, flip-flops, or open footwear are permitted on the property.
  • Children must remain under the direct supervision of a responsible adult at all times.
  • Chaperones are expected to help manage group behavior and uphold safety rules throughout the visit.

3. Location & Parking

The Red Barn Farm is located at 25115 Smith Grove Rd N., Dinwiddie, VA 23803.
No buses or vehicles may park near the barn. All vehicles must park in the designated field in front of the school building. Please follow posted signage and staff directions upon arrival.

4. Lunch & Pavilion Use

Visitors are welcome to bring packed lunches and enjoy them under our 1,500-square-foot covered pavilion, available for group use during scheduled field trips.
All trash must be properly disposed of in designated containers. This helps prevent animals from ingesting harmful waste, which can pose a danger to their health and safety.

5. Hand Hygiene

It is strongly advised that all participants wash their hands at the designated handwashing station before exiting the barnyard.
Proper hygiene supports both guest safety and animal well-being.

6. Weather and Cancellation Policy

  • Field trips take place rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather forecast.
  • In the event of severe weather (e.g., thunderstorms, high winds), The Red Barn Farm will contact you to reschedule.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 7 days in advance to avoid cancellation fees. Cancellations made within 7 days of the visit will still require full payment.

7. Payment Terms

  • Payment is due at the time of the field trip by cash, check, or approved electronic method.
  • Late payments or returned checks may incur a service fee and may affect your ability to book future visits.
  • All sales are final. No refunds will be issued under any circumstances.

8. Group Rates and Chaperone Policy

  • Homeschool groups receive two free adult passes for every 25 paying children.
  • Public and private school field trips: Teachers and administrators attend free of charge.
  • Children under the age of 2 are free.
  • All additional attendees—including parents, siblings, and other family members—must pay the regular group admission rate.

9. Liability, Emergency, and Conduct Policies

Animal Interaction:

  • Animals may behave unpredictably. Guests are advised to follow all staff instructions and interact with animals at their own risk.
  • Hand-feeding is permitted but must be supervised by an adult at all times. Children should never attempt to feed animals alone.
  • Most animals are friendly but may nip fingers accidentally. Guests should keep hands flat when feeding and follow staff guidance.
  • Never walk directly behind farm animals. Maintain a 5–7 ft distance from the hindquarters of large mammals to avoid accidental injury.
  • Only feed or touch animals when permitted and under staff supervision.

Medical Emergencies:

In the event of an accident or medical emergency, staff will call 911 and follow emergency procedures. Staff are not authorized to administer medication or treatment.

Injury Waiver:

By participating in a field trip, all guests acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of a farm environment, including contact with animals, uneven terrain, and natural elements.

Personal Conduct:

Disruptive or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated. The Red Barn Farm reserves the right to remove guests whose behavior endangers others or animals.

No Smoking/Substance Use:

The property is smoke-free, vape-free, and alcohol-free. No drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products are permitted.

10. Restroom Access

A porta potty is available on-site for guest use. No indoor restrooms are available.
Children must be accompanied by an adult when using the facilities.

Acknowledgment of Terms

By attending a field trip to The Red Barn Farm, all participants and guests agree to the above terms and accept all inherent risks associated with agritourism activities.
